Introduction
One-On-One Experiences
Advantages of a One-on-One Experience
Higher Level of Attention and Personalised Support
From the facilitator’s perspective, there is only one person to focus on. This means the attention is not divided between a group and the individual can receive a higher level of care. This means they can be highly attuned and receptive to that individual and their needs. This includes needs of emotional support, guiding, or any of the other types of support that a psychonaut may need or would help them with their process.
It also means that they will receive personalised support. For example, if the music needs changing, it can be changed with one person in mind. If they would like more fresh air in the space a window can be opened. If they want silence they can have silence.
In a group experience, facilitators must balance the needs and desires of all the individuals present. In a one-on-one experience the considerations of others aren’t an issue and won’t compromise decisions made around how to guide the experience. If the the tripper wants or needs support navigating through some challenging aspect of their journey, the facilitator can help immediately.
Knowing that you have the undivided attention of a single facilitator can also help to feel more supported and reassured heading into the experience. This can also help with a more ideal state and mindset heading in, leading to a more beneficial experience and outcome.
This level of support extends through preparation, the entirety of the session, and through integration. The increased ability to change and customise also applies to the timing and schedule of the experience.
Minimised External Disturbances
Emotional releases are fairly commonplace and generally invited during psychedelic experiences. This may be in the form of crying, laughing, toning, loud sighing, shaking or otherwise.
For many, when these sounds and vibrations come from other people during a session, they can be distracting. They can pull people out of their inner experience.
In some aspects, we can consider psychedelic sessions to be condensed meditation sessions in that they are a concentrated opportunity to look inside at the deeper levels of our psyche. As is the case with meditation sessions, for us to remain focused on this, it can help to have a quiet environment with minimal unexpected or unpredictable noise from outside.
In the case of a one-on-one experience, there are no others. It is quite literally a more controlled environment. This can help to enhance focus on personal introspection without unplanned external influences. Being a solo also brings more opportunities for moments of solitude that may be crucial for personal processing
Tailored Setting
This can be the case with factors such as indoor or outdoor setting, music, lighting, the size and layout of the space, and how it is decorated.
One may have a preference to be in a sheltered location outside in nature. One may have a preference for classical music. One person might want to be in the corner of a room. In all of these cases, these preferences can be matched to the individual in a one-on-one experience.
In terms of decoration, items in the space can also be matched to a single person. For example, if the person undergoing the experience has a connection to a particular religion, they might have a cross or a small Buddha figurine on display. In a group setting, these might not be welcome or appropriate.
This is a type of personalisation of the setting that can aid in bringing a higher level of comfort and meaning to the tripper.
